Darker Side of Love Preview

Sirius

The smell of blood was getting stronger, his panic was growing.  And that’s when he heard it.  There was no mistake about it.  Aidan, screaming out his name.  He ran faster and came to a complete stop at the top of one of the staircases.  His gaze was fixed on the sight below.  Aidan, his Aidan, the beautiful innocent boy was sitting at the bottom of the stairs, covered in blood, sitting in a pool of it.  A knife was sticking out of his right hand, blood pouring from a wound on his neck.  And behind him, Donovan.  The vampire’s face instantly went from triumph to pure fear.
A low growl escaped his lips.  Donovan.  His gaze was fixed on the vampire.  “You.  You,” he tried to speak but he couldn’t form words, his body was shaking with anger.  Donovan opened his mouth as if to explain and that was enough for Sirius.  He raised his hand a purple glow forming around it and Donovan went flying backwards away from him.  Sirius moved so fast that Aidan wouldn’t have seen him move at all.  He stood over Donovan, his foot pressing down hard on his chest.  “Give me one damned good reason I shouldn’t kill you where you lay you bastard.  You hurt him.  He did nothing to you and you hurt him!”  He could see the panic in the other vampire’s eyes, saw him open his mouth again.  Sirius kicked his jaw hard and a grin formed on his face as he heard the bone crack.  “How does it feel now?  Huh?  How does it feel to be on the receiving end of the pain?”  The rage he felt blinded him, his right hand still had the purple glow around it.  His power, spirit control.  He could bend anyone to do his will, make them do anything he wanted, and there was nothing they could do about it.  He could rip a soul to shreds with a snap of his fingers if he wanted to.  Kill them, just as easily.  A growl tore from his lips as the other vampire cowered at his feet.  A pathetic sight.  Sirius sent a sharp kick into his side and the yelp he heard made his grin widen.  “What’s wrong?  Too afraid to fight back or answer?”  He raised his hand, using his power to lift Donovan up and pin him to the wall.  When the other vampire did not answer Sirius’s rage grew.  “Answer me!”

Aidan


Cautiously, Aidan raised his fingers to Sirius’s mouth, trailing them over his lips, his eyes never leaving Sirius’s.  They were softer than he had imagined they would be, and only once had he ever felt them before, but he blocked that memory from his mind.  His fingers traveled from his lips down to his neck, just resting there, watching Sirius.  As Sirius leaned closer to him, Aidan didn’t turn away this time, he let Sirius get closer, but the vampire stopped moving only a centimeter away from him.  Everything was in slow motion, but, despite his nerves, Aidan closed the gap between them, his lips pressing against Sirius’s.  A kiss, they’d kissed.  Nothing mattered anymore, nothing but them.  The rules, everything Aidan had ever learned had been broken in that one moment.
“You have no idea what you do to me,” Sirius mumbled softly against his lips, his arms on either side of Aidan’s head.  Aidan didn’t reply, just pulled Sirius back down into the kiss.  Nothing else mattered, just them.  Nothing could…
